Instructor Profile

Lead instructor of Wild Spirit BushcraftRichard Alexander Rees is the Founder and Lead instructor of Wild Spirit Bushcraft. Richard’s nature instilled childhood has had a massive impact on his life, as a young child he has been inspired by Dan Haggerty better known as Grizzly Adams, it would only be in time that he would find himself along the same path.

Richard’s travels have earned him a vast amount of experience and skills. He has travelled many countries, learning the bush craft skills from the locals, for example Swedish Sami, and tribal South Africans of Thabazimbi.

Richard’s main passion lies with the ancient Stone Age and Arctic life. This came from making fire from flint and steal as a youngster; he is now researching in depth the clothing of the Inuit of Alaska and Canada and makes Inuit Arctic clothing from animal skins on specialised courses, some of which can be purchased from the website.

He is experienced with working animals, for example Birds of prey and sled dogs, currently he is training a team of huskies, which will bring a taste of Arctic life to Wales for people who may never have the chance to experience any of these skills.

Richard has put all of his experiences and skills to the test by literally living of the land himself. So if you’re ever out in the woods and you see a wild mountain man coming out of the forest don’t worry, it’s probably Richard!
